| Thanks to the Colorado Legislature's HB 10-1193, as of 2010-03-08, this site has effectively been reduced to a zero dollar revenue generator for the State of Colorado. All sales consummated through this site are uncompensated as of today to the site's owners.
By insisting on implementing what is effectively a regressive internet tax in HB 10-1193, the good people of Amazon have responded by removing Colorado affiliates from their system... not a move they wanted to do, but HB 10-1193 is so burdensome it was apparently their only option.
Colorado is the only state in the union to implement this type of legislation, at an especially hard time for all small business in the State of Colorado and throughout the country, the Colorado state legislature seemingly wants to wipe out any dollars going to Internet affiliate businesses here in the state. While management intends to keep this site going for now and as long as possible, The Commerce Company will receive nothing from the sales made through this site until such time (we are told) as the State of Colorado repeals HB 10-1193.
So, we have a few choices as both a company and as Colorado voters:
- Sell Boots.Net to the highest bidder (probably to an offshore company, out of the reach of such regressive legislation who will use it to bring dollars to themselves and their own local economy. Not a great option for us or Colorado)
- Leave the state and find a more business friendly state in which to operate (But we love Colorado, which is why we have lived here for decades)
- Fold up shop and join the unemployed, further taxing the state's overburdened resources (We don't even want to go there... after all, unlike the legislature, we certainly don't want to hurt or be a burden to our fellow Colorado citizens, we prefer to work)
- Encourage the current state legislature to repeal this burdensome drek masquerading as a bill which devastates affiliate based Internet business in Colorado before "We the people" vote in a whole new and more business friendly government in November 2010 (which might be nicer for the legislators who want to keep all those great benefits they have voted for themselves on our backs, but which we ourselves don't have and cannot afford)
- Waiting until November 2010 and firing the SOBs at the ballot box who fail to understand that all the programs government "provides" are nothing more than a skim of dollars generated by businesses operating in the state. When you take away businesses' ability to generate those dollars, the state legislature's ability to "provide" becomes essentially what issues forth from the back end of a well fed horse, in every way, including, but not limited to, value, quality and odor.
We hope that everyone takes notice of what is going on here and learns exactly how government can ruin any small businesses (unless you happen to run your small business as an offshore affiliate program from India or China beyond the reach of US state law) and votes wisely.
Note to all politicians - The people you "serve" cannot get jobs from companies when they are unfairly legislated out of existance. Goose... Golden Egg... anyone, anyone?
All good citizens, make your own boots count in November 2010. Vote! |
